Sitting of the National Electrotechnical Committee (NEC) : towards a revitalization of the institution for some more fortunate perspectives.

The meeting room of the National Agency of Standards, Metrology and Quality Control (ANM) sheltered early on Thursday, March 24th, 2022, the sitting of the National Electrotechnical Committee (NEC) under the direction of its president Mr. Faustin DAHITO and the outstanding presence of Mr. Gabin Joseph K. DEGBEY, General Manager of the National Agency of Standards, Metrology and Quality Control (ANM) and General Secretary of the National Electrotechnical Committee (NEC).
The President of the National Electrotechnical Committee (NEC), after welcoming the audience, emphasizes the fact that this sitting occurs on the occasion of the revitalization of the National Electrotechnical Committee (NEC) which of the main aim is in other ways, the compliance control of the electrical materials to the International Electrotechnical Committee (IEC) standards, the promotion of the International Electrotechnical Committee (IEC) standards at the national level.
After the opening words of the National Electrotechnical Committee (NEC) President, the General Secretary of the National Electrotechnical Committee (NEC) on the less interesting inventory of the running of the said Committee, Mr. Gabin Joseph DEGBEY made the audience notice that regarding the strong will of the National Authorities to ensure the commercialization of good quality products responding to the requirements of the Consumers, it seems imperative to take strong measures to stop the sluggishness observed in the running of the Committee relatively to its accountability.
Mr. Gabin Joseph K. DEGBEY will have been supported in his intervention by Mr. Faustin DAHITO, President of the National Electrotechnical Committee who, deplored the commercialization of poor or doubtful quality products by some wormy traders making of Benin a crazy student as far as standards’ observation is at stake.
The attention of the audience was also drawn on the fact that Benin does not pay anymore regularly its membership fees at the International Electrotchnical Commettee (IEC) apart from the one relative to the ISO Standards where its subscriptions are up-to date. The spiny question of the legal existence of the National Electrotechnical Committee (NEC) was also pointed out. There is therefore the need to make the National Electrotechnical Committee work as due and survey the strict observation of the standards compliance in the electrical and Electrotechnical areas.
As far as prospects are concerned, a resolution draft has been forseen on the occasion of the legal existence of the National Electrotechnical Committee (NEC) in order to revive the membership fees issues under the accompaniment of the National Authorities. A circumstantial committee has been set up to make some suggestions relative to the elaboration of a strategic outline and the elaboration of the legal status of the National Electrotechnical Committee (NEC). The circumstantial committee is headed by Mr. Claude LALEYE, the Secretary is Mr Dassouki ISSIFOU SIDI assisted by Mr Mozart HOUNSOU from CCI Benin.
It was in a determination atmosphere that the members of the National Electrotechnical Committee ended the present sitting and planned their next meeting in one month time to examine the works of the circumstantial committee.
