The main aim for ECOWAS, PTB and the ECOMET in organizing this workshop is to reinforce the laboratories’ management abilities in accordance with the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 and apply it appropriately to the temperature measurement laboratories.
Then, from the 17th to 21st of October 2022 at Hôtel du lac, the Technical Staff for temperature measurement laboratories of the ECOWAS Metrology institutes gathered in order to get acquainted with the requirements of the said standard.
Officially given the top by Philéas PATINVOH, standing for the Minister in charge of Trade and Industry, this ceremony witnessed the effective presence of Mr. Gabriel AHISSOU , Chairman of ECOWAS Metrology Community Committee (ECOMET), Mr. Abrao LOPES , Metrology Supervisor at PTB/ECOWAS, Mr. Guillaume ROBARDET , the ECOWAS/PTB project coordinator, Mr. Andreas BECKERMANN , head of the German Cooperation in Benin and Mr. KABORE Lassane , CEO for Industry Commission at ECOWAS.
After the opening words of the ECOMET Chairman Gabriel AHISSOU , the different representatives explained the way this training could raise the effectiveness of the ECOWAS Quality Infrastructure.
The substitute of the Minister in charge of Trade and Industry on this occasion, attests the significance of this standard for laboratories and added that it will help harmonizing methods and procedures which, will help each country ensure reliance among consumers and traders.
He used the same occasion to take again the engagement of the Ministry to provide more means to the national Agency for Standards Metrology and Quality Control (ANM) for abilities reinforcement.
During the training which lasted five days, the participants experienced some pratical handling sessions in the laboratories of the national Agency for Standards Metrology and Quality Control (ANM) and the national laboratory.
The trainers, Mrs. Mona MAKHLOUF and Sylvia AGBESSIYANLE respectively from France and Ghana nurture the participants on five topics at least.
Those topics are as follows: requirements of the ISO/IEC 17025:2017, uncertainities determination, good calibration pratices in air-conditionned rooms, good calibration pratices for temperature measurement tools and Hazard analysis and the pratical sessions cases in laboratories also need to be mentionned.
At the end of the training, closed by Mr. Philéas PATINVOH , the PTB/ ECOWAS project Coordinator says his satisfaction about this workshop’s organization at Cotonou and added he is sure all the participants will set it up once back to their different countries.
Mr. Issa SAWADOGO , spokesperson of all the participants said his satisfaction about the quality of the training and wishes the PTB ECOWAS project minded to organize other similar trainings.
The workshop ended by the training certificates distribution to the participants.
